Types of trailers:
Linear- Is a type of opening title sequence that follows a storyline and is often used for many films as it gives a clear start to draw the audience into the action. Linear opening title sequences could be a flashback or, for horror, could be the first killing killing to introduce the killer into the storyline. A very effective example of this is 'The woman in black' which uses a flashback to create tension and also introduce the paranormal element of the Woman in black herself

Non-Linear- Is an abstract type of trailer and does not follow an order of story line sequence. A non-linear sequence will often be distorted but can be very effective for making the audience question what is onscreen and for horror can put them on edge to what is going to happen next. An effective example of this is in the opening titles of the Saw franchise which manipulates the elements of realism and horror.
Symbolic or motif- Usually outlines a main theme that will be prominent in the film and often outlines the killer. An example of this in horror is 'Seven'. Seven was seen to start the motif style of trailer as it shocked the audience with how different it was from all other styles of horror people had already seen before. Many modern styles of horror now use symbolic or motif styles in their trailers as it entices the niche market of horror to come and watch the films they have produced.
