Andrew Tudor had the idea that instead of women being weak characters in horror movies, women should be strong and independent. This theory had completely contradicted the stereotype of women being vulnerable individuals that had previously needed men to help them. An example of this theory being used in horror films is in the movie Carrie, where the female character starts off being weak, and then evolves into a strong independent female character. This was also used in the movie Scream when the female character Sidney was strong and independent throughout the movie.
