Dos of media -
Story Board - Creating a story board is crucial when making a film in media as it ensures you stick to your story and don't go off topic. It is also useful when filming as we then know exactly what shots we need to film.
Sound - Sound is important as it not only creates an atmosphere but can also set the scene and the mood. Sound is also needed for jump scares and sound effects like screams etc. Sound can also make an audience feel that they are submerged into the action onscreen and bring a sense of realism.
Tripod - Using a tripod is a necessity when making our film as it means the camera will not shake, giving the film a more professional look. Also, using a tripod means that we can easily use a wide range of camera angles - keeping the audience engaged. also ensure that the tripod is not left in the shot when filming the scene you are trying to take.
Location - Choosing the suited location is important - especially when our genre is horror because it sets the scene.Using the wrong location would also make the characters seem out of place and would take away the scary vibe of a horror.
Make-Up - Make-up is crucial in media as it is what gives the characters their personality. It also creates a seamless connection between the actors and the audience so they are fully immersed in the characters lives. Make-up is also very important in horror as it adds the scary element to a character.
Casting - Casting the most suited actors to the roll is important in media as it makes the film seem more realistic to the audience as the film is more believable. The media being more believable will mean the audience are able to relate to the characters more.
Risk assessment - Doing a risk assessment is vital when filming as you can outline the potential risk and have a plan of what to do if something was to go wrong.
Variety of camera angles - Using a variety of camera angles keeps the audience interested i the film. Also, it makes the film look more professional if a wide range of shots are used.
Don'ts of media -
Filming near loud areas - Filming near loud areas or in loud areas disturbs the audio of the film, this makes the film seem very unprofessional as the audience are unable to hear the actors. In horror it also takes away the spooky atmosphere if the audience are unable to hear it properly as the element of loneliness is taken away.
Filming in the dark - Although filming in the dark is effective for horror, if it is too dark the audience will not be able to see the OTS.
Zoom - Zooming whilst filming makes the image look unprofessional and it loses its quality. You should always zoom when editing the film later as this will not effect the quality of the video.
Film on reflective surfaces - Filming on reflective surfaces means you may be able to see the camera in the reflection. This is especially bad in horror as it takes away the scariness from the shot, it also looks very unproffesional.
