We analysed real opening title sequences to take inspiration from them and to distinguish what we like and don't like from them to therefore help us film our opening title sequence. Watching and analysing opening title sequences also allowed us to see a variety of ways they can be filmed and edited, also providing us with inspiration and ideas.

Scream (1996)
The Scream OTS starts with the word "SCREAM" in red accompanied by a scream, the red could symbolise blood - making us think that the film will involve death. The OTS is then relatively light-hearted with the woman talking to a mysterious man on the phone, however the scene then progresses into a much darker mood when the man constantly phones her back. As this happens darker lighting is used to create a scarier atmosphere - the fact the woman is alone and therefore vulnerable also accompanies this. Towards the end of the OTS the scene becomes even more dark when the man states he will "cut her like a fish", this makes us think the man posses a large threat. We took inspiration from this OTS by wanting to use the concept of a female being in danger, we liked how as an audience we felt frightened for the female so in our opening title sequence we are going to use females as the victims to replicate this.
Annabelle (2014)
Annabelle OTS begins with an extreme close up shot on the doll - this immediately shows what the threat is going to be in the film, there is also a voice over talking about the doll to give context as well as create more fear surrounding the doll. The three characters then talk about how they believe Annabelle is "possessed" which also tells you that the doll is a danger to them. Dark lighting is also used throughout the OTS to show the 'dark' mood of the film as well as to give a spooky atmosphere. Sinister music is also used to give the OTS a creepy vibe - automatically telling us the film is a horror. From Annabelle we took the idea as having one villain as the centre focus because then we could create fear, we chose a clown as our centre focus and used him as the threat in our OTS much like Annabelle is the threat in this OTS.
SE7EN (1995)
The OTS SE7EN is a symbolic OTS meaning it includes various representational images like a book and drawings, SE7EN is dark and gloomy which is a key theme in horror and gives it a mysterious atmosphere. SE7EN also has shots which are uncomfortable to watch like when he is shaving the skin off his finger tips, this makes the audience feel uncomfortable throughout. Analysing this OTS has helped us as we wanted to replicate the shots that make you feel uncomfortable, we are going to of this by filming blood pouring out of the clown's mouth in our OTS. We also liked how the titles broke up the shots in this opening title sequence so we took this idea and have decided to positioned a title between each shot when we edit.
Sinister (2012)
Sinisters opening tile sequence is a very different yet effective. It shows four people being hung slowly by a rope coming from the branch of a tree. The opening title sequence is very slow meaning there is plenty of time to build a tense and uncomfortable atmosphere. The pain of the hanging has an effect on the audience as it is a painful scene to watch. The opening title sequence also has an old TV style effect making it more mysterious and historic, like an event that has actually happened, it being more realistic makes the OTS even more scary. We liked how the Sinister opening title sequence has a climax and builds in intensity so we want to use this technique in our opening title sequence also.
