Scenes and trailers that inspired us
|
The Possession
We have decided to take inspiration from 'The Possession', More specifically, the scene where the young girl stabs her dad in the hand with a fork. We are going to create a scene very similar to this to show Emma's madness, this will portray her as a threat throughout our trailer. |

Amityville horror:
The Amityville trailer inspired us to create a trailer whereby everything starts off fine and everyone and everything is normal, but then suddenly everything changes and a series of events start to piece together a horror movie. We also liked how fast paced the trailer was, and have been inspired to create something similar ourselves. |

What lies beneath
in the movie 'what lies beneath, the scene that inspired us the most was the scene where the woman was drowning. This scene was simple, but really effective and something that we have the ability to recreate in our own way. To make this our own, we have decided to use a male as the person getting drowned. We have also decided that rather than surviving, the person will actually drown and die in the bath tub rather than survive. |

Paranormal activity 4
In the first minute of the trailer we see a boy standing outside and then suddenly looks at the blonde girl watching him. In out trailer, we are going to use Emma to recreate this scene. Although in Paranormal activity 4, the idea is all about a possessed child, our group wanted to make this our own by making it about a woman going insane, and is doing really crazy, out of the ordinary things. |
Make-Up
Emma's make-up will cary in the trailer, from a more 'normal' and natural look to a 'asylum patient' style. This will show her deteriaion as well as fitting with the theme as horror. There are two main make-up looks in our trailer that are going to need special effects which are as follows.
Rash
Emma is going to have a rash on her arm which gradually spreads across her body in the trailer. We have decided to corporate this into our trailer as we feel it will make the trailer more gory and thus more scary. We have decided to use a red, inflamed rash for this which we will achieve by using products such as latex. |
Mental patient
For the part of the trailer when Emma is in counselling recalling what she had done we have decided to use make-up to show her insanity and madness. This will make Emma look intimidating to the audience. We will achieve this make-up look by darkening her under eye circles as well as adding redness to her face. |

Character ideas:
Maddie
We have decided to follow the main character stereotypes when creating our trailer. We wanted to have a main character to appear as strong and intelligent but highlight their downfall in the trailer as well.
We have taken inspiration from 'The Ring' and its central character Samara, who was left by her mother in a small well, because we can take inspiration from the vulnerability but hatred and loss of mental stability that also comes through her character. We also decided that our character would be a person with blonde hair to contradict the stereotype of a blonde character being the victim, also by having this character as a female we will shock our audience from their expectations of the classic horror elements.

We finally decided on a name for this character who would be central to the film trailer and poster. 'Maddie' is what the character name and potential film title is due to the hidden inference of the word 'Mad' in the title. We decided on this to show the downfall of a character and make small hints to the audience of what to expect, in an almost hidden message title.
Other Character ideas
Maddie will also have three friends that will be with her in the trailer and show a sense of normality and realisation of the downfall of her character. Maddie's three friends will also be separate to her character as one conforms to the stereotype in an almost contrast to the central character herself. We wanted to put this into the trailer because we wanted to highlight to the audience the extent of Maddie's insanity. We also decided to show her control and power in the trailer through the idea of the death of her friend as a single, quick shot. We wanted to use this because her friend is male and the stereotype of this character is to be strong and powerful, although Maddie has all the control in the trailer.
The final character Maddie will interact with is another friend who we have decided will escape her power, but not fully. We wanted to use this to intrigue the audience into what will happen in the film as a whole and keep them guessing, so that they come and see the film when it is released.
We took inspiration form the film 'I know what you did last summer' as we wanted to have a sense of companionship in the friends as they try and help Maddie but also create a sense of fear as they don't know her next action, or what will happen next!

Location choices and justifications
As a group we have decided to have a split location-the contrast between the school and a family home is effective because they are both suppose to be safe; therefore our trailer contradicts this expectation, making it uneasy for the audience.
Additionally, teachers within a school are suppose to identify any problems and make the school environment safe, however, when Emma stabs Jordan's hand in the school canteen the teachers fail to react effectively; consequently the students become endangered due to the teachers being an unreliable source. Including the location of a family home is significant as it is expected to be safe and secure, as a result, this will make the audience feel on edge and vulnerable to the events that occur there. Due to the safety aspect that is associated with a house, having the murdering scene take place there is important because it highlights that anything can happen which develops a heightened sense of fear for the audience which will then result in them getting more involved and hyped to find out what happens next. |

Props
Fork:
In our trailer we are going to use a fork as a weapon when Emma stabs one of her friends in the hand in the canteen. The use of a fork makes an assault more personal as the fork is much like an extension of the body. We have decided to use a fork for the stabbing as it is much less generic than a knife. |
Pen and paper:
We have decided to show Emma's insanity by viewing her go mad in everyday situations. We have decided to have her uncontrollably scribbling on a piece of paper in class to the point that she goes through a whole pile of paper. This as I mentioned shows her insanity and inability to perform 'normal' tasks. It also displays her violence. |
Potential Problems
Due to the location being situated at school, finding teachers that are willing to act within our trailer could be a problem. As a result of having a welcome back scene at the beginning, organising a group assembly containing children of mixed ages could also be difficult to execute, along with getting them all to be quiet and focused as this would take place during a regular school day therefore excitement would be high as they are able to miss some lesson time.
Filming in the house could cause lighting issues which would make the quality of the video look bad.
Additionally, including a 6 year old to participate in the acting could be difficult as the individual is still very young, resulting in our video taking longer to make due to it being difficult to explain to her what to do and when.
The drowning scene and the stabbing could also be an issue as it could potentially go wrong, therefore someone could actually be harmed.

Age rating
We decided to give our trailer an age rating of fifteen as we wanted to ensure we didn't expose our audience to anything that is inappropriate for them. Due to the brutality in the trailer and the themes of madness and murder, we felt it would be inappropriate to show this to a young audience. Although we didn't want to put the film as an age rating of '18' because we felt that would directly effect the revenue we got from the film, if it was to be released.
BBFC specification states that a film can be age rated as a '15' if there is no strong sexual portrayal or graphic sexual violence. We don't intend to portray sexual activity in any way, therefore making it easier for our film to be age rated as a fifteen. There is also an allowance for some discriminatory language and we will use this in the trailer to show the downfall and isolation of 'Maddy' as a character. Seeing all the criteria that we fit into, it is clear that our film will be released as a '15' film. |
